Safety first: Disconnect the charger from power and do not use it if you suspect a ground fault. Water and electricity are extremely dangerous together.
- 1. Inspect for moisture:
- Check the J1772 connector for water, condensation, or dirt.
- If wet, gently shake out excess water and allow the connector to dry completely in a warm, dry area for at least 24 hours.
- 2. Examine the cable jacket:
- Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections along the Megear cable.
- If copper conductors are visible or the cable feels soft/spongy from damage, the entire cable assembly must be replaced.
- 3. Check ground connection:
- Have a qualified electrician verify that the outlet or hardwired circuit has a solid equipment ground.
- Tighten any loose ground screws in the outlet box (with power off).
- 4. Internal GFCI board inspection (advanced):
- With power disconnected, open the Megear housing.
- Locate the ground fault detection (GFCI) board or circuitry on the main control board.
- Look for burn marks, cracked components, or loose connectors on the current transformer (CT) ring that senses leakage.
- If damaged, replace the main control board or GFCI module as a unit.
If E03 reappears after drying and inspection, discontinue use until the charger is evaluated by a qualified EVSE technician, as persistent ground faults can indicate serious safety issues.
