The system displays F5; the compressor may be locked out or the system may run in a limited mode.

Safety first: Turn off power at the disconnect. The discharge line can be extremely hot; allow time to cool before touching.

Steps to address F5 (discharge temperature sensor):

• Locate sensor: Find the sensor clipped to the compressor discharge line near the compressor outlet.
• Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clamped to the copper line and insulated as originally installed. Re-secure if loose.
• Inspect wiring: Look for heat-damaged insulation or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
• Test sensor: Disconnect and measure resistance; compare to the Amana chart. Replace if out of specification.
• Evaluate board: If the sensor is good and properly mounted but F5 remains, replace the control board.

Do not relocate the sensor away from the discharge line; it is critical for compressor overheat protection.
