Possible Causes
Loose fan blade or mounting hardware, Failing condenser fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting bolts, Debris in fan shroud
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the outdoor disconnect before inspecting the unit.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect fan blade: Remove the top grille and check that the fan blade is tight on the motor shaft and not cracked. Tighten the set screw if loose.
- 2. Remove debris: Clear any sticks, stones, or other objects from the fan shroud and base pan.
- 3. Check motor bearings: Spin the fan blade by hand with power off. If it feels rough, wobbles, or makes grinding sounds, the motor bearings are failing and the motor should be replaced.
- 4. Inspect compressor mounts: Look at the rubber grommets under the compressor. If they are deteriorated or missing, vibration noise can increase. Replacement is a professional task.
Note: Do not bend fan blades; replace them if damaged.
