Possible Causes
Dirty indoor air filter, Dirty evaporator or condenser coil, Low refrigerant charge due to a leak, Undersized unit for the room, Failing compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before cleaning coils or filters.
Steps:
- Clean filters: Remove and wash filters with mild detergent. Dry completely.
- Clean indoor coil: Gently vacuum or brush dust from the evaporator fins. Use a no-rinse coil cleaner if heavily soiled.
- Clean outdoor coil: Remove debris and gently clean fins with a soft brush or low-pressure water.
- Check room conditions: Close doors and windows, reduce heat sources (ovens, direct sun), and ensure correct temperature setting and mode (Cool, not Fan).
- Measure temperature drop: After 15–20 minutes of operation, the air from the indoor unit should be at least 8–12°C cooler than room air. If not, a refrigerant or compressor issue is likely and requires a technician.
