GE
Condensate Drainage Failure
GE air conditioner leaks water inside the room
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Unit not tilted correctly toward outside, Blocked condensate drain hole or channel, Cracked or misaligned drain pan, Excessive ice melt from frozen coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Use towels to protect the flooring.
Steps:
- Check installation tilt: For window units, ensure the unit is slightly tilted downward toward the outside so that water flows outdoors.
- Clear drain hole: Remove the unit from the window if necessary. Locate the drain hole or weep slots at the rear base and clear them with a small brush or wire.
- Clean drain pan: Remove debris, algae, or sludge from the drain pan so that water can flow freely.
- Inspect for icing: If the evaporator coil is freezing, address airflow issues (e.g., clean filter, ensure fan speed is adequate) and check thermostat settings.
- Check drain pan integrity: If the plastic or metal pan is cracked or rusted through, replace the entire drain pan assembly.
