Goodman
Thermostat Configuration or Wiring Issue
Goodman air conditioner thermostat shows power but does not call for cooling
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Thermostat not set to cooling mode, Miswired Y or C terminals, Incompatible thermostat with Goodman communicating system, Lockout or schedule preventing cooling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit before changing thermostat wiring.
Steps to check:
- 1. Verify mode and setpoint: Ensure the thermostat is in COOL mode and the setpoint is below room temperature.
- 2. Check schedule: Disable any energy-saving schedules or vacation modes that may prevent cooling.
- 3. Inspect wiring at thermostat: Remove the thermostat from its base and confirm the Y, R, C, G, and W wires are connected according to the Goodman system requirements.
- 4. Bypass test (advanced): With power off, you can temporarily jumper R to Y at the indoor control board to see if the condenser starts when power is restored. If it does, the thermostat or its wiring is suspect. Only perform this if you are comfortable and understand low-voltage circuits.
When to call a professional: If wiring and settings are correct but there is still no call for cooling, the thermostat or indoor control board may need professional diagnosis.
