Possible Causes
Protective oils on heating element,Burn-in of non-stick coating,Residue from manufacturing or packaging,Improper cleaning before first use
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good ventilation (open window or use range hood) during initial burn-in. Do not leave the appliance unattended.
Steps to minimize odor:
- 1. Initial cleaning: Wash the basket and drawer with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- 2. Wipe interior: With the unit unplugged, wipe the interior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then wipe again with a clean damp cloth to remove soap residue.
- 3. Burn-in cycle: Plug in the air fryer, set it to 400°F (or highest setting) and run empty for 15–20 minutes. Some odor is normal during this process.
- 4. Repeat if needed: If odor persists, allow the unit to cool, wipe again, and run a second burn-in cycle.
If a strong burning plastic smell continues after several uses and cleanings, inspect internal wiring and components for overheating as described in the burning smell fault.
