Dash air fryer will not start; display shows E1 immediately when power button is pressed.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and let it cool completely before opening or testing anything. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
Step 1 – Power reset
- Unplug the air fryer for at least 10 minutes.
- Plug it back into a known-good outlet (avoid power strips) and try again.
If E1 returns, continue.
Step 2 – Inspect the temperature sensor wiring
- Remove the basket and pan, turn the unit upside down on a soft surface.
- Remove the bottom screws to access the internal cavity (this may void warranty; if under warranty, contact Dash support instead).
- Locate the NTC temperature sensor near the heating element in the upper housing. It is usually a small metal probe or disc with two thin wires.
- Check that the sensor wires are firmly connected to the main control board and not pinched, burned, or broken.
- Reseat any loose connectors by unplugging and firmly reconnecting them.
Step 3 – Check sensor resistance (for advanced DIYers)
- With the unit still unplugged, disconnect the sensor plug from the control board.
- Use a multimeter set to resistance (ohms) and measure across the two sensor leads.
- A typical NTC sensor should read between about 50kΩ–200kΩ at room temperature (exact value varies by model). A reading of 0Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
Step 4 – Replace faulty parts
- If the sensor is open/shorted or physically damaged, replace the NTC temperature sensor assembly specific to your Dash model.
- If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board sensor input may be defective and will need replacement by a qualified technician.
When to stop: If you are not comfortable opening the unit or using a multimeter, stop after the power reset and visual inspection and contact Dash or a professional appliance technician.
