Possible Causes
Manufacturing residues not burned off, Cleaning chemicals left inside, Non-food-safe liners or foils used, Overheated plastic components
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation when running burn-in cycles.
- Step 1 – Deep clean: Wash the basket, pan, and accessories thoroughly with warm soapy water. Wipe the interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry.
- Step 2 – Burn-in cycles: Run the empty air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes, 2–3 times, allowing it to cool between cycles.
- Step 3 – Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use oven cleaners, bleach, or strong solvents inside the unit. Residues can off-gas when heated.
- Step 4 – Inspect plastics: If you see discolored or deformed plastic near the heater, discontinue use and seek service.
