Possible Causes

Open-circuit NTC sensor in heating chamber, Damaged sensor wiring harness to control PCB, Loose connector on main control board, Failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Severin air fryer from the mains and allow it to cool completely before opening any covers. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.

  • Power reset: Unplug the air fryer for 5–10 minutes, then plug it back in and try again. Sometimes E1 can be triggered by a transient fault.
  • Check sensor connector: Remove the outer housing (usually screws on the back or bottom). Locate the small NTC temperature sensor wires coming from the cooking chamber to the main control PCB. Ensure the plug is fully seated and not corroded or burnt.
  • Inspect sensor wiring: Follow the thin, heat‑resistant wires from the sensor probe near the heating element to the PCB. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or broken conductors. Repair minor damage with high‑temperature rated wire and heat‑shrink, or replace the harness.
  • Test the NTC sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance, measure across the NTC sensor leads. A typical Severin NTC will show tens of kΩ at room temperature. If it reads open (infinite resistance), the sensor is defective and must be replaced.
  • Check the PCB input: If the sensor and wiring are good, the sensor input circuit on the main control PCB may be faulty. Visually inspect for burnt components or cracked solder joints. Replacement of the control PCB is usually required if the input is defective.

Warning: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or opening the appliance, contact a qualified technician. Never bypass the temperature sensor; this is a critical safety component.
