Possible Causes

Protective coatings not fully burned off, Low-quality accessory basket coating overheating, Plastic parts too close to heater, Overheating main control board plastics

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the smell is acrid or accompanied by smoke, unplug immediately and inspect for overheating.

Steps:

  • Initial burn-in: Run the air fryer empty (or with a small amount of water in the drawer) at 180–200°C several times for 10–15 minutes, allowing it to cool between each cycle, to burn off manufacturing residues.
  • Check accessories: Remove third-party accessories and test with only the original Xiaomi basket and drawer.
  • Inspect interior: Look for discolored or warped plastic near the heater area. These parts might be too close to the heat source.

If the smell persists after multiple burn-in cycles and cleaning, inspect internal components for overheating. Replace any warped plastic shields or the heater assembly if it is misaligned and causing nearby plastics to overheat.
