Possible Causes
Dust burning off the heat exchanger (new installation), Overheating pump or fan motor, Loose electrical connection causing arcing, Blocked ventilation around the boiler casing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you smell burning plastic or see smoke, switch off power immediately and do not use the boiler until inspected.
- New boiler check: A slight smell during the first few hours of operation can be normal as protective oils burn off. This should dissipate quickly.
- Inspect ventilation: Ensure the CTC boiler has adequate clearance and that ventilation grilles are not blocked.
- Internal inspection (technician): Remove the front cover and look for discolored wiring, scorched PCB areas, or overheated motors. Tighten any loose terminals.
- Replace damaged components: Any component showing signs of overheating should be replaced before returning the boiler to service.
