Hamilton Beach Restricted Water Flow / Partial Clog

The coffee maker brews extremely slowly or takes much longer than normal to complete a pot.

Possible Causes

Mineral scale in heater tube, clogged reservoir outlet, coffee oils and residue in brew basket outlet, partially blocked drip stop valve.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before disassembling the brew basket or reservoir.

Clean external flow paths:

  • Remove the brew basket and clean the outlet hole and drip stop mechanism with hot soapy water and a small brush.
  • Rinse the carafe lid thoroughly; some models route coffee through the lid.
  • Clean the reservoir outlet and any mesh screen.

Descale internally:

  • Run a 1:1 vinegar and water solution through a full brew cycle.
  • Pause halfway for 20–30 minutes, then resume.
  • Flush with 2–3 full reservoirs of clean water.

If brewing remains abnormally slow, internal tubing may be heavily scaled, and the heater assembly may need replacement.
