Hoover Battery Pack Undervoltage Protection

Cordless vacuum will not start; red LED flashes once repeatedly when the trigger is pulled.

Possible Causes

Depleted lithium-ion battery pack, faulty battery management system (BMS) board in the battery, high internal resistance cells, poor battery-to-vacuum contact at terminals.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the vacuum OFF, remove the battery pack, and disconnect the charger from the mains before inspecting anything.

Steps to try:

  • Fully recharge the battery: Insert the Hoover battery pack into the OEM Hoover charger. Allow it to charge uninterrupted for at least 3–4 hours or until the charger indicator shows full (usually a solid green light). Do not use third-party chargers.
  • Check battery contacts: Inspect the metal terminals on both the battery and the vacuum handle for dirt, corrosion, or burn marks. Clean gently with a dry cloth. If there is light oxidation, use a cotton swab slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely.
  • Reseat the battery: Slide the battery in firmly until it clicks. A loose fit can trigger undervoltage errors even with a good battery.
  • Cool down the pack: If the vacuum was used heavily, let the battery cool for 30 minutes at room temperature, then try again. Overheated packs can temporarily register as low voltage.
  • Test with another battery (if available): If a second Hoover-compatible battery works normally, the original pack is likely failing internally and should be replaced.

When to stop: If the E1 indication persists after a full charge and cleaning the contacts, the internal BMS or cells are likely faulty. Do not attempt to open the battery pack; replace it or contact a Hoover service center.
