Possible Causes

Dust cup overfilled, cyclone unit clogged, pre-filter completely blocked, HEPA filter saturated with fine dust.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Always remove the battery before cleaning filters.

  • Empty the dust cup: Detach the dust container and empty it completely. Wipe the inside with a dry cloth.
  • Clean the cyclone unit: If your Makita vacuum uses a cyclone assembly, remove it and tap it gently to dislodge fine dust. Use a soft brush to clean the cyclone fins.
  • Service the filters: Remove the pre-filter and main filter. Tap them outdoors to remove dust. If the manual states they are washable, rinse with lukewarm water only and allow them to dry fully (24 hours) before reinstalling.
  • Check seals and gaskets: Inspect the rubber seals around the dust cup and filter housing. Ensure they are seated correctly and not torn.
  • Test suction: Reassemble and test on low power first. If suction is restored and E8 disappears, the issue was filter blockage. If not, inspect for cracks in the dust cup or cyclone that could cause air leaks.
