Possible Causes

Shorted main suction motor, Shorted brushroll motor, Damaged motor driver MOSFETs on control board, Internal wiring harness short

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the vacuum from the charger and ensure it is powered off before disassembly.

  • Step 1 – Remove accessories: Detach all tools, brush heads, and extension tubes. Try running the vacuum with only the main body. If it stays on, the fault is in an attachment (often the motorized brush head).
  • Step 2 – Test with ECO/low mode: If your Neato cordless has multiple power levels, start in the lowest mode. If it runs briefly then shuts off, suspect a motor drawing excessive current.
  • Step 3 – Inspect motorized brush head: Open the brush head, remove the brushroll, and clear any hair or debris. Spin the brushroll by hand; it should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, the brushroll bearings or end caps are binding and overloading the motor.
  • Step 4 – Check for wiring damage: Inspect the cable from the main body to the motorized head for cuts, crushed sections, or exposed copper. Replace the cable or head assembly if damaged.
  • Step 5 – Isolate main suction motor: With the body shell removed, disconnect the main suction motor connector from the PCB. Power on the vacuum. If it now stays on without shutting down, the suction motor is likely shorted and must be replaced.
  • Step 6 – Board inspection: Examine the motor driver area on the PCB for burnt spots or cracked components. If present, the main control PCB should be replaced rather than repaired at home.
