Possible Causes
Blocked Hisense circulation pump impeller, Failed circulation pump motor, Loose wiring to circulation pump, Seized pump due to scale or debris
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the unit to cool before working underneath.
- 1. Listen for pump operation: Start a cycle and listen. If you hear filling but no strong spray or only a humming sound before E5 appears, the circulation pump is likely not running correctly.
- 2. Clean filters and spray arms: Remove and clean the Hisense filter assembly and spray arms to ensure they are not restricting flow.
- 3. Access the circulation pump: Lay down towels, remove the lower front panel, and if necessary tilt or slide the dishwasher out. Locate the main circulation pump attached to the sump.
- 4. Check for obstructions: Disconnect power, then remove the pump cover or inlet to inspect the impeller. Remove glass, bones, or other debris that may jam the impeller.
- 5. Test the motor: Check the wiring harness for secure connections. If you are qualified, test the motor windings for continuity. A seized or open motor requires replacement of the Hisense circulation pump assembly.
- 6. Reassemble and test: After clearing obstructions or replacing the pump, reassemble and run a test cycle. Persistent E5 indicates a possible control board drive fault.
