Possible Causes
Defective flow meter, Blocked flow meter turbine, Air in water line causing erratic readings, Wiring fault between flow meter and control
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the water supply before servicing the water circuit.
- 1. Locate flow meter: The flow meter is typically installed in-line on the cold water inlet to the dishwasher. It may be a small plastic body with two wires.
- 2. Inspect for debris: Remove the flow meter and check the internal turbine for scale or debris that could prevent it from spinning freely. Clean gently with water.
- 3. Check orientation: Ensure the flow meter is installed in the correct direction of flow as indicated by an arrow on the housing.
- 4. Electrical test: With a multimeter set to frequency or pulse counting, verify that the flow meter outputs pulses when water flows through it. No pulses indicate a failed sensor.
- 5. Harness inspection: Check the wiring from the flow meter to the control board for damage or loose connections.
- When to call a technician: If the flow meter and wiring are good but E12 persists, the control board input circuit may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
