Possible Causes
Faulty rotary program selector switch, Worn encoder contacts, Loose selector wiring harness, Control PCB reading error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the dryer from the mains before removing the control panel.
- Check selector knob: Ensure the program knob is not cracked or slipping on the shaft. Replace the knob if it does not firmly engage.
- Inspect selector switch: Remove the control fascia to access the rotary selector. Check for signs of wear, burning, or contamination.
- Reseat wiring: Ensure the connector from the selector to the PCB is fully inserted. Clean any oxidised contacts with appropriate contact cleaner.
- Test different programs: After reassembly, plug in and try several different programs. If E16 appears only on certain positions, the selector switch is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- PCB fault possibility: If a new selector does not resolve E16, the main PCB may not be interpreting the selector signals correctly and may need replacement.
