Possible Causes
Loose or broken drum baffle (lifters), dented drum, foreign object stuck in drum seam, worn rear bearing causing drum wobble
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer before inspecting inside the drum.
Internal drum inspection:
- Check baffles: Open the door and inspect the plastic or metal baffles inside the drum. Wiggle each one; if loose, tighten or replace the baffle using the screws accessible from the outside of the drum.
- Look for dents or objects: Rotate the drum slowly by hand and look for dents or objects caught in the drum seam or front felt seal. Remove any foreign items.
- Check rear support: If the drum appears to drop at the rear or scrape, inspect the rear bearing and replace if worn.
Test: After tightening or replacing parts, run a short cycle to confirm the banging noise is resolved.
