Possible Causes
Shorted outlet thermistor, moisture or corrosion at thermistor connector, damaged harness, failed main control temperature input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug dryer and shut off gas before service.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Access the blower housing area and locate the outlet thermistor (often near the thermal fuse). Check for moisture, corrosion, or lint packed around the sensor.
- Clean area: Carefully remove lint and debris from around the thermistor and blower housing.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. A reading near zero ohms indicates a shorted sensor and it must be replaced.
- Check harness: Inspect the wiring from the thermistor to the control board for chafing or melted insulation that could cause a short.
- Replace outlet thermistor: Install a new OEM thermistor, secure it properly, and reconnect wiring.
- Re-test: Restore power and run a timed dry cycle. If F23 returns with a new sensor and good wiring, suspect a faulty main control board.
