Possible Causes
Failed igniter, weak gas valve coils, blown thermal fuse, faulty flame sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply before servicing. Work in a well-ventilated area and check for gas odors.
Steps:
- Observe ignition: With panels in place but front lower panel removed (if possible), restore power and gas, start a heat cycle, and watch the burner area. If the igniter never glows, suspect the igniter or thermal fuse. If it glows then clicks off with no flame, suspect gas valve coils or gas supply.
- Check thermal fuse: Unplug again. Locate the thermal fuse on the blower housing and test for continuity. Replace if open and clean venting to prevent recurrence.
- Test igniter: Measure igniter resistance; an open igniter must be replaced. Handle the new igniter carefully; do not touch the element with bare fingers.
- Replace gas valve coils: If the igniter glows and clicks off but no flame appears, replace the pair of gas valve coils on top of the gas valve.
- Flame sensor: Test the flame sensor for continuity when cool. Replace if open.
