Possible Causes
Broken or slipped drive belt, Seized drum roller, Seized idler pulley, Failed drive motor start winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply if applicable.
Steps:
- Check drum rotation: Try turning the drum by hand. If it spins freely, suspect a broken belt. If it is stiff, suspect the rollers or idler.
- Inspect belt: Remove the top and front panels; check if the belt is intact and around the drum and motor pulley. Replace it if broken or heavily worn.
- Check rollers and idler: Spin each roller and the idler pulley; replace any that are noisy or seized.
- Motor test: If the belt and rollers are good but the motor only hums, the motor may be faulty and should be replaced.
