Possible Causes
Broken moisture sensor bars, Sensor wires disconnected, Lint or fabric softener coating on sensor bars, Failed sensor harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the dryer before servicing. Be aware that interior edges can be sharp.
- Step 1 – Locate moisture sensors: The sensor bars are typically two metal strips located inside the drum on the front bulkhead, just below the lint screen opening.
- Step 2 – Clean sensor bars: Using a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol, thoroughly clean the sensor bars to remove any waxy fabric softener residue that could interfere with readings.
- Step 3 – Inspect for damage: Check that both bars are intact, not broken, or loose. Inspect the screws securing them.
- Step 4 – Check wiring: From the front or rear (depending on the model), access the back of the sensor bars and verify that the harness is connected and not damaged.
- Step 5 – Continuity test: Disconnect the harness and test continuity through each bar and its associated wiring. Repair or replace any open sensor bar or harness.
- Step 6 – Test operation: Reassemble the dryer, restore power, and run an automatic (sensor) dry cycle with a small load to confirm proper operation and that the F28 error does not reappear.
