Possible Causes
Broken proximity (PP) conductor in cable, Damaged resistor network in connector, Faulty proximity detection circuit on control board, Bent or contaminated pins in vehicle connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: Proximity detection ensures the charger knows a plug is inserted and can limit current based on cable rating.
- Inspect connector pins: Examine the Type 2/Type 1 plug for bent, recessed, or corroded pins, especially the PP (proximity) pin. Clean gently with electrical contact cleaner if dirty.
- Check cable strain relief: Look for kinks or sharp bends near the charger housing and connector where the PP conductor may have broken internally.
- Wiggle test: With the charger powered and vehicle connected, gently move the cable near both ends. If the error appears or disappears intermittently, the cable assembly is likely faulty.
- Replace cable assembly: If proximity wiring is suspected, replace the ABB OEM tethered cable assembly. Do not attempt to splice or repair the PP conductor.
- Control board check: If a new cable does not resolve E006, the proximity detection circuit on the main control board may be defective and require board replacement.
