Possible Causes
Loose connection in J1772 handle, Broken conductor inside output cable, Poor contact between handle pins and vehicle inlet, Vibration or strain on cable during charging
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before manipulating internal wiring. Avoid placing tension on the cable while charging.
- Step 1 – Observe behavior: Note if charging stops when the cable is bumped or moved. If so, suspect a mechanical connection issue.
- Step 2 – Inspect cable routing: Ensure the "Electrify Home" cable is not under tension, pinched in a door, or twisted sharply.
- Step 3 – Wiggle test: With the vehicle connected and charging, gently move the handle and cable. If charging drops out, the cable/handle assembly is likely failing.
- Step 4 – Internal strain relief check: With power OFF and cover removed, inspect the cable gland/strain relief where the cable enters the charger. Ensure it is tight and the conductors are secure.
- Step 5 – Replace cable assembly: If intermittent faults persist, replace the entire cable and handle assembly.
