Possible Causes

Welded power contactor contacts, Failed contactor coil, Loose control wiring to contactor from main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: This fault involves high-voltage switching components. Turn OFF the breaker and lock it out if possible. Only proceed if you are comfortable working inside electrical equipment.

  • 1. Power-cycle: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. Sometimes the control board will re-test the contactor and clear a transient fault.
  • 2. Listen for contactor operation: With the cover on and power restored, plug in the vehicle and listen for a distinct click from inside the Lectron unit. No click suggests a failed coil or control signal; a loud buzz may indicate a stuck contactor.
  • 3. Internal inspection: With power OFF and cover removed, locate the main power contactor (usually a block relay with two or three large terminals). Check for signs of overheating, discoloration, or melted plastic. Gently tug on the low-voltage control wires to ensure they are firmly seated.
  • 4. Mechanical test (if accessible): Some contactors have a manual test button or visible armature. With power OFF, verify that the armature moves freely and is not mechanically jammed. Do not force it.
  • 5. Electrical test (advanced): Using a multimeter and with power OFF, check coil resistance against Lectron’s service specs (if available). An open coil indicates a failed contactor. Also check for continuity across the main contacts; if they show continuity when the coil is not energized, the contacts are welded closed and the contactor must be replaced.

Resolution: Replace the defective contactor with an identical Lectron-specified part. If you are not qualified to work on high-voltage circuits, contact a licensed electrician or Lectron-authorized service provider.
