Possible Causes

Interrupted firmware update due to power loss, Corrupted firmware image, Faulty flash memory on control board, Unstable network during update

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not repeatedly power cycle during an update unless instructed by Rivian documentation.

  • Step 1 – Stable power: Ensure the breaker is ON and will not be switched off during recovery attempts.
  • Step 2 – Stable network: Confirm the charger has a reliable Wi‑Fi connection with good signal strength.
  • Step 3 – Retry update: Use the Rivian app to check for updates and initiate a manual firmware update if the option is available.
  • Step 4 – Hard reboot: If the app instructs, turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON, and allow the charger to boot fully without interruption.

If E009 remains and the charger cannot complete a firmware recovery, the main control board’s flash memory may be damaged. Board replacement by a Rivian-authorized technician is typically required.
