Possible Causes

Failed evaporator NTC sensor clipped to evaporator coil, Sensor wiring damaged during defrosting or ice removal, Connector corrosion at evaporator sensor plug, Sensor shorted by ice build-up and water ingress

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect mains power before accessing the evaporator area. Sharp metal edges and ice can cause injury.

How to proceed:

  • 1. Defrost first: If the evaporator is heavily iced, switch off the freezer and leave the door open for 12–24 hours with towels to catch melt water. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • 2. Access the evaporator: Remove the internal rear panel of the freezer (usually a plastic cover held by screws). Behind it you will find the evaporator coil and attached sensor.
  • 3. Identify the sensor: The evaporator sensor is typically a small probe or bullet-shaped device clipped to the evaporator tubing with two thin wires.
  • 4. Inspect and test: Check for broken clips, damaged insulation, or corrosion. Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values or service data. Replace if open or shorted.
  • 5. Check wiring to PCB: Follow the sensor wires through the cabinet pass-through to the main control board. Ensure the grommet is sealed and the connector is firmly seated.
  • 6. Replace sensor: Fit a new "Amica Evaporator NTC Sensor" of the correct type. Clip it securely to the same location on the evaporator coil for accurate readings. Refit the rear panel, restore power, and monitor operation.

Warning: If you see signs of refrigerant oil or a damaged evaporator coil, stop and contact a refrigeration technician.
