Possible Causes
Faulty mechanical thermostat (on basic Amica models), Stuck relay on electronic control board, Shorted temperature sensor causing overcooling, Incorrect sensor placement near the evaporator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing any controls.
Steps:
- 1. Verify settings: Ensure the temperature is not permanently set to the coldest or fast-freeze mode. Adjust to a higher temperature and wait several hours.
- 2. Mechanical thermostat models: If your Amica freezer uses a dial thermostat, remove the control housing and inspect the thermostat. If the compressor never stops, regardless of the dial position, the thermostat contacts may be stuck. Replace it with an "Amica Freezer Thermostat".
- 3. Electronic models: Check for error codes. If none are present, but the compressor runs constantly, the main control relay may be stuck. This usually requires replacing the main control board.
- 4. Sensor placement: Ensure the freezer temperature sensor is correctly located and not directly touching the evaporator coil, which can cause it to read too warm and lead to overcooling.
Note: Overfreezing wastes energy and can damage packaging and food quality.
