Possible Causes

Failed door switch, misaligned door magnet (on reed-switch models), broken wiring to door switch, main control board input fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing door switch or trim pieces.

Steps:

  • Check door operation: Open and close the door while watching the interior light. If the light stays on or off incorrectly, the door switch is suspect.
  • Inspect switch: On upright freezers, the door switch is usually in the cabinet frame near the top or side. Gently pry out the switch with a plastic tool.
  • Test continuity: With the switch removed and disconnected, use a multimeter to test continuity while pressing and releasing the plunger. Replace the door switch if readings are inconsistent.
  • Magnet models: Some Fisher & Paykel models use a magnet in the door and a reed switch in the cabinet. Ensure the magnet is present and aligned; replace if missing.
  • Wiring: Inspect the harness for breaks or corrosion. Repair as needed.
