Possible Causes

Faulty cabinet/ambient thermistor, damaged wiring harness to sensor, sensor connector corrosion, failed main control board (PCB) input channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing any wiring or control modules.

Diagnostic steps:

  • Confirm code: Clear the alarm (if possible) and power-cycle the freezer. If F2 reappears, proceed.
  • Locate ambient/cabinet sensor: On many Fisher & Paykel freezers, this sensor is located behind a small grill or vent in the liner, often near the top front or side wall.
  • Visual inspection: Remove the inner trim or cover to expose the sensor. Check for moisture ingress, ice buildup, or damaged insulation on the sensor leads.
  • Resistance test: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature (~20–25 °C). Typical NTC values are around 10 kΩ (model dependent). Compare to service specs if available. Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • Harness check: If the sensor tests OK, check continuity from the sensor connector to the main control board. Repair or replace any damaged harness sections.
  • Control board: If sensor and wiring are good but F2 persists, the main control board sensor input may be defective and require replacement.

Note: Incorrect ambient sensor readings can cause poor temperature control and excessive run time, so do not bypass the sensor.
