Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Cracked drain pan, Excessive frost from door gasket leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and mop up any standing water to prevent slips.
- Locate drain: Inside the freezer, remove baskets and the rear inner panel. At the bottom of the evaporator area, locate the defrost drain hole.
- Clear blockage: Use a soft plastic probe or pipe cleaner to gently clear debris from the drain hole. Do not use sharp metal objects.
- Defrost drain tube: If the tube is frozen, pour small amounts of warm (not boiling) water into the drain hole using a turkey baster until water flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
- Inspect drain pan: From the rear bottom, check the plastic drain pan above the compressor. Ensure it is not cracked or overflowing. Replace if damaged.
- Check door gasket: A poor seal can cause excess frost and water. Inspect and replace the gasket if needed.
After clearing the drain, monitor for further leaks. Persistent leaks may indicate a misrouted drain tube or cabinet damage requiring professional attention.
