Possible Causes
Faulty door ajar sensor or reed switch, Magnet in door trim missing or out of position, Damaged door wiring harness, Control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing trim or accessing wiring.
- Step 1 – Confirm door is level: Check that the freezer is level front-to-back and side-to-side. An out-of-level cabinet can cause the door to not seat properly. Adjust leveling legs as needed.
- Step 2 – Inspect door magnet (if equipped): Some JennAir models use a magnet in the door to trigger a reed switch in the cabinet. Check the door edge for a missing or loose magnet strip or plug.
- Step 3 – Test door ajar switch: With the door open, locate the sensor area (often near the top frame). Gently tap or move the sensor area while watching the display; if the alarm intermittently clears, the sensor or wiring is suspect.
- Step 4 – Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then restore power to clear any latched alarm condition.
- Step 5 – Replace sensor or board: If the alarm persists and the door and magnet are correct, the door ajar sensor or main control board may need replacement. This typically requires removing interior trim and should be done by a qualified technician.
