Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Debris or mold in the drain trough, Cracked drain tube grommet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Locate the drain: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator. The drain hole is usually at the bottom center of the drain trough.
- Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan located under the unit.
- Check the drain tube: From the rear, remove the lower access panel and locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Ensure it is not kinked or blocked. Clean it with a flexible brush if needed.
- Inspect the grommet: Check the rubber grommet where the tube enters the drain pan. Clean or replace it if clogged with sludge.
- Reassemble and monitor: After clearing, reassemble the panels and monitor for further leaks over the next few days.
