Possible Causes
Very dirty filter and blower wheel, undersized return ducting, weak blower motor capacitor causing low airflow, overspeed or underspeed blower tap misconfigured on the American Standard board.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before accessing the blower or wiring.
Error 14 indicates repeated opening of the primary limit due to overheating.
- Replace the filter and clean the blower:
- Install a new filter of the correct size.
- Remove the blower assembly and clean dust from the blower wheel blades.
- Check the blower capacitor:
- Discharge and remove the capacitor.
- Test with a capacitance meter; replace if out of tolerance with an identical µF rating.
- Verify the blower speed tap:
- On PSC motors, ensure the correct speed tap is connected for heating according to the American Standard wiring diagram.
- If overheating persists, have the ductwork and furnace sizing evaluated by a professional.
