Possible Causes
Seized blower motor bearings, incorrect motor replacement with wrong HP, failed blower capacitor, faulty ECM motor module on an American Standard variable-speed furnace.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before working on the blower.
- Spin the blower wheel by hand:
- It should rotate freely; stiffness indicates bad bearings.
- Test the capacitor (PSC motors):
- Replace if out of spec.
- ECM motors:
- Inspect the motor module for burn marks; replacement is usually required if faulty.
- Blower motor replacement is often best handled by a professional.
