Possible Causes
Thermostat fan set to ON, Stuck blower relay on control board, Open limit switch, Miswired thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the power before accessing the control board.
- 1. Thermostat setting: Check that the thermostat's fan setting is on AUTO, not ON.
- 2. Reset power: Turn the furnace power off for 5 minutes, then restore it. If the blower starts immediately with no call for heat, suspect a stuck relay or an open limit switch.
- 3. Limit switch check: An open high limit switch can cause the control board to run the fan continuously. Replace a faulty limit switch after confirming that airflow is adequate.
- 4. Board relay: If the limit switch is closed and the thermostat is not calling for heat, the blower relay on the control board may be stuck closed, and the control board will need replacement.
