Safety: Turn off power before handling the blower or control board. ECM motors contain high-voltage electronics.

- Inspect ECM harness: Remove the blower compartment door and locate the ECM motor. Ensure the multi-pin low-voltage plug and high-voltage plug are fully seated and not corroded.
- Check blower wheel: Spin the blower wheel by hand with power off. It should turn freely without scraping. A jammed wheel can cause ECM faults.
- Verify control board settings: Compare dip switch or jumper settings on the Ruud control board to the installation manual for your model and tonnage. Incorrect settings can cause blower errors.
- ECM diagnostics: Some ECM motors have LED codes on the end bell. If present, note the code and consult Ruud documentation. ECM replacement is typically a technician-level repair.
