Possible Causes

Air lock after draining and refilling, closed slice valves around pump or heater, severely clogged filters, empty or very low water level.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI immediately. Running a dry heater can permanently damage it.

  • Check water level: Fill the spa to the recommended level on the Sunrise Spas skimmer. Ensure all jets are submerged.
  • Open all valves: In the equipment bay, verify that all slice/gate valves on either side of the pump and heater are fully pulled up/open.
  • Bleed air from system: Slightly loosen unions on the pump and heater to release trapped air until water appears, then retighten.
  • Remove and clean filters: Remove filters and run the spa briefly to confirm strong flow. Clean or replace filters as needed.
  • Reset error: After restoring water and flow, turn power off for 60 seconds, then back on. If dr returns, the heater may already be damaged and should be tested by a technician.
