Possible Causes
Failed dehumidifier humidity sensor, Sensor wiring harness damage, Corroded sensor connector, Faulty humidity input circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off and unplug the dehumidifier before removing any panels.
Steps to address E5:
- Power cycle: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes, then plug it back in to see if the E5 error clears.
- Locate the humidity sensor: On Homedics dehumidifiers, the RH sensor is typically clipped near the air intake grille or on the evaporator coil area and connected by a small harness to the control board.
- Inspect for corrosion or moisture: If the sensor is on the coil, it may be exposed to condensation. Gently dry the sensor and its connector with a soft cloth. Do not use heat guns or hair dryers.
- Check wiring: Remove the front or side panel as needed and trace the sensor harness to the main PCB. Ensure the connector is fully seated and that the wires are intact.
- Replace the sensor: If E5 persists, replace the Homedics dehumidifier humidity sensor. Unclip the old sensor, disconnect it from the board, and install the new one in the same location.
- Board diagnosis: If a new sensor does not clear the E5 error, the main control PCB is likely faulty and should be replaced, or the unit should be retired.
