Possible Causes
Failed evaporator temperature sensor (NTC), Broken or pinched sensor wiring, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Faulty temperature sensing circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the dehumidifier before removing any covers. Avoid bending refrigerant tubing.
Steps to fix E6:
- Reset: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes and plug it back in. If the E6 error returns, continue with the following steps.
- Access the coil sensor: Remove the front or rear housing to expose the evaporator coil. The sensor is usually clipped to the coil fins or inserted into a small well.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and has not fallen away, which can cause incorrect readings.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor leads to the main PCB. Look for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor (advanced): With a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads. Compare the reading to the service chart if available; if it reads open or shorted, the sensor is defective.
- Replace the sensor: Install a new Homedics evaporator temperature sensor / NTC in the same location and route the harness as originally installed.
- Control board issue: If the E6 error persists with a new sensor, the main control PCB is likely faulty and should be replaced by a technician.
