Possible Causes
Mold or mildew in the water bucket, biofilm on the evaporator coil and drain pan, a dirty air filter, or standing water in the internal pump reservoir.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Use gloves and a mask if sensitive to mold.
- Clean bucket: Wash the water bucket with hot, soapy water and a small amount of bleach. Rinse thoroughly.
- Disinfect drain pan: Access the evaporator drain pan and wipe with a cloth dampened with a mild bleach solution. Do not saturate electrical parts.
- Clean filter: Wash or replace the air filter.
- Run in fan-only mode: After cleaning, run the unit in fan-only mode for 30–60 minutes to help dry internal surfaces.
- Regular maintenance: Empty the bucket daily and leave it slightly ajar when not in use to dry.
