Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Capacitors in the power circuit may hold a charge; avoid touching the PCB power section unless it is discharged and you are qualified.
Steps:
- Check supply voltage: Verify that the wall outlet provides stable voltage within the range specified on the Sencor rating label. Avoid using long, thin extension cords.
- Listen for compressor: When the unit attempts to start, does the compressor click and then stop, displaying E5? Repeated clicking suggests a start device or compressor issue.
- Inspect start device: Access the compressor compartment. Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals to expose the PTC start relay and overload protector. Look for burn marks or melted plastic.
- Test PTC/overload: Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the overload protector and the approximate resistance of the PTC. An open overload or cracked PTC should be replaced.
- Replace start device: Install a compatible Sencor compressor start relay/overload kit if the original is faulty.
- Compressor test: If the compressor windings are shorted to ground or have abnormal resistance, the compressor is defective, and the sealed system will require professional replacement.
Note: If you are not experienced with mains-voltage and refrigeration components, this repair is best left to a professional technician.
