Possible Causes

Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Sensor dislodged from the evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Failed sensor input circuit on the main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Avoid bending refrigerant tubing.

Steps:

  • Reset attempt: Unplug the unit for 10 minutes, then power it back on. If E2 reappears, proceed.
  • Access evaporator area: Remove the front or rear housing to expose the evaporator coil (the cold coil located behind the air filter).
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: It is usually a small probe or bead thermistor clipped or taped to the evaporator fins, with two wires leading to the main PCB.
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil. If it has fallen off, reattach it using the original clip or aluminum tape to ensure good thermal contact.
  • Inspect wiring: Look for cuts, pinches, or corrosion on the sensor wires and connector. Firmly reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • Test resistance: With a multimeter, measure the resistance at room temperature. Compare the reading to the room sensor's reading if they are the same type; values should be similar. An open or short reading indicates a faulty sensor.
  • Replace sensor: If faulty, install a new evaporator temperature sensor (coil thermistor) compatible with your Sharp model. Route the wires away from the fan and sharp edges.
  • Control board check: If the sensor tests good and is properly mounted but E2 persists, the main control PCB may have a failed sensor circuit and will require replacement.

Note: Do not attempt to cut or open refrigerant lines; this requires licensed service.
