Possible Causes
Defective ice bin thermistor, shorted thermistor wiring, sensor dislodged from mounting point, failed main control PCB interpreting sensor signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety Warning: Disconnect power before opening any panels. Sharp metal edges inside the cabinet can cause injury; wear cut-resistant gloves.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- 1. Confirm error behavior: Clear the code by unplugging for 5 minutes. If E2 reappears within a few minutes of restart, proceed.
- 2. Locate the low-temperature sensor: On many Avanti ice makers, the low-temp sensor is either clipped to the evaporator plate or mounted near the ice bin area. Remove the front or side panel as needed.
- 3. Check sensor placement: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the metal surface it is meant to monitor. A sensor hanging loose can cause incorrect readings and E2.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or insulation damage, especially where wires pass through cabinet holes.
- 5. Test with multimeter: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the Avanti service chart. A reading that is extremely low (near 0 Ω) or extremely high (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- 6. Replace sensor if faulty: Install a new Avanti-compatible bin/evaporator thermistor. Route wires along the original path and secure with clips or zip ties to avoid future damage.
- 7. Evaluate control board: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the main control PCB may be misreading the signal and should be replaced.
