Possible Causes
Dirty or scaled ice thickness probe, misaligned thickness sensor, broken sensor wiring, or a failed ice thickness control board circuit.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before reaching into the ice-making compartment.
Steps to resolve:
- 1. Locate the ice thickness probe: On many Avanti models, a metal or plastic probe or sensor arm sits near the evaporator plate or ice grid to measure ice thickness.
- 2. Clean the probe: Mineral scale or slime on the probe can cause incorrect readings. Clean it with a soft cloth and a solution of warm water and ice maker cleaner or white vinegar. Rinse with clean water and dry.
- 3. Check alignment: Ensure the probe is positioned according to the user manual, typically just touching or slightly away from the ice surface when fully formed. Gently adjust if bent.
- 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the probe wires back to the control board. Look for breaks, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the board.
- 5. Test operation: Restore power and run a cycle. If E6 returns after cleaning and inspection, the sensor or control board may need replacement.
