Possible Causes
Defective ice mold temperature sensor, Sensor not properly attached to the mold, Broken sensor wiring, Faulty control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and shut off the water supply before accessing internal components.
Steps to resolve F2:
- Locate the mold sensor: On built-in Danby units, the sensor is usually clipped to the ice mold or evaporator surface inside the ice compartment.
- Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped or strapped to the mold. If loose, re-secure it to ensure good thermal contact.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or loose connectors. Repair or re-seat as needed.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. Compare the reading to Danby’s temperature/resistance chart. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range or if it's open/shorted.
- Replace the sensor: Install a new Danby ice mold/evaporator sensor if faulty. Route wires away from sharp edges and moving parts.
- Reassemble and test: Restore power and water, then monitor several ice cycles to confirm that F2 does not return.
