Possible Causes
Failed hot gas solenoid valve, wiring issue to hot gas valve, blocked hot gas line in sealed system
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the compressor compartment. Sealed system repairs must be performed by a certified technician.
- Observe harvest cycle: During harvest, the unit should briefly warm the evaporator to release ice. If ice remains firmly stuck and E13 appears, the hot gas valve may not be opening.
- Check valve wiring: Locate the hot gas solenoid valve near the compressor. Verify that the electrical connector is secure and the wires are not damaged.
- Test coil resistance: With power disconnected, measure resistance across the valve coil. An open circuit indicates a failed coil.
- Replace the hot gas valve (coil only if possible): If the coil is removable, replace only the coil with an OEM EdgeStar part. If the entire valve body is defective or the line is blocked, a sealed system repair is required.
- Call a technician for sealed system work: If replacing the coil does not restore harvest function, contact a professional for hot gas valve or line replacement and system evacuation/recharge.
