Possible Causes

Blocked ice-full sensor, failed infrared emitter/receiver, misaligned ice level sensor bracket, loose sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before working inside the ice bin area.

Steps:

  • Check for blockage: Open the ice storage bin and remove excess ice. Ensure no cubes are stuck in front of the ice-full sensor window or hanging from the evaporator into the sensor path.
  • Clean sensor lenses: If your SMAD model uses an infrared ice level sensor, gently clean the emitter and receiver windows with a soft cloth and warm water. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspect alignment: Verify that the sensor brackets are not bent and that the emitter and receiver face each other directly.
  • Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Reseat the connectors, and look for damage.
  • Test operation: With the unit reassembled and powered, simulate a full bin by placing an object in front of the sensor (if accessible) and see if the unit responds. If E6 persists, the sensor assembly is likely defective.
  • Replace sensor: Remove mounting screws and install a new ice-full sensor / infrared level sensor assembly. Reconnect wiring and test.
